We teamed up with BKMamasandPapas to bring you a list of family-friendly Fall activities. Below are ten farms that have been recommended by parents for Fall favorites including apple picking, pumpkin picking, corn mazes, farm animals, and more. Also, check out our previous collaborative post featuring 20 family-friendly destinations one hour from the City, where you can stroll and admire the Fall foliage. Most, if not all, of the destinations require advanced booking to limit capacity, so be sure to plan accordingly. Also, many family farms accept cash only on site. Always remember to practice COVID-19 safety precautions, and enjoy the season!
Harvest Moon Farm & Orchard
Located in North Salem, NY (one hour drive from Brooklyn). Harvest Moon Farm & Orchard is a family –owned and operated apple orchard located in Westchester County. Their main harvest is in September with apples but they also grow a variety of vegetables and stone fruits which ripen summer through Fall and are available at the farm store (open 9am-5pm). For COVID precautions, Apple Picking will take place in September and October only on Fridays and weekends and by reservation only. Reservations can be booked 10 days prior to visiting. In addition to apple picking and a farm store, there’s also a pumpkin patch!
Dr. Davies Farm
Located in Congers, NY (one hour drive from Brooklyn). The Davies Farmhouse was built in 1836 as part of a 450-acre farm that ran from Rockland Lake to the Hudson River. Dr. Davies Farm is currently offering daily apple picking, from 10 am to 4 pm, with reservations suggested. In addition to apple picking, there is also a corn maze and hayrides operating at limited capacity. There are 2 farm stands open and yummy yummy food options on site including fresh, warm donuts, apple pies, hotdogs, popcorn, etc.
The Orchards of Concklin
Located in Pomona, NY (one hour drive from Brooklyn). For COVID precautions, the orchards are open to the public on Sundays only, from 9 AM to 4:30 PM. Every person entering the orchard is REQUIRED required to purchase a 1/2 peck bag (Price to be determined) (Children under 3 free). The schedule of apple varietalsvarieties that will be available each Sunday are listed on the website. Reservations are required, and slots are filling up quickly! Book now to reserve.
Green Meadows Farm
Brooklyn, NY. If you want to stay closer to home, Green Meadows Farm, located in Floyd Bennett Field, Brooklyn has all the staples of Fall fun: Pumpkin picking, a kid-friendly spooky house, corn box, farm animals, and hayrides. The Farm is currently closed but many Fall events are planned including Sukkot 2020, Pumpkin Picking, Halloween Fun Weekends, and Pumpkin Smashing. Check the website or call for opening dates.
Happy Day Farm
Manalapan Township, NJ (one hour and 20-min. drive from Brooklyn). Happy Day Farm is a popular destination for Brooklyn parents looking for a picturesque and kid-friendly destination for a day trip.Their Fall Festival runs from Sept. 12-October 25. While the pumpkin patch is open daily, the festival only runs on weekends (plus Fridays in October). The festival activity list is jam-packed, including animal feeding, corn hole, a corn maze, fun slide, giant jenga, rubber duck racing, tractor rides, and more! Advanced tickets are required to visit. Please note, the farm accepts cash only.
Harbes Family Farm
Mattituck, NY (one hour and 30-min. drive from Brooklyn). Harbes Family Farm is a great place for families and a popular North Fork destination. Fall activities include apple picking, pumpkin picking, hayrides and corn mazes. There are also lots of open play areas for kids, farm animals and a farm store. They are currently open for the season and operating at limited capacity.
Silverman’s Farm
Easton, CT (one and 20-min drive from Brooklyn). Silverman’s Farm is a fun family destination featuring farm animals that you can feed, a play area, pick-your-own fruit and a farmer’s market. They also have alpaca, goats, buffalo, Scottish Highland Cows and a huge bunny enclosure and a pumpkin patch. It’s currently open for the season and admission is $5 for children and $6 for adults.
Love Apple Farm
Ghent, NY (two hour and 20-min drive from Brooklyn). Love Apple Farm is an 80-acre farm that is open year-round. They have a wonderful farm store with baked goods, a cafe and produce. A highlight of Love Apple Farm is their huge petting zoo and children’s play area. They also have plenty of pick-your-own fruit options with picking dates on this harvest schedule. The market hours are 8-6pm every day and the petting zoo hours are 8:30am – 4pm.
Masker Orchards
Warwick, NY (one and 20-min drive from Brooklyn). Masker Orchards is located in the Warwick Valley and is made up of 200 acres of orchards with many different apple varieties. Picking season is from September through early November and they are open 9-5pm every day, 7 days a week. View the orchard ripening schedule here. In addition to apple picking they also have a country store featuring great apple cider, apple pies, apple jam and apple donuts.
Sun High Orchards
Randolph, NJ (one hour drive from Brooklyn). Sun High Orchards in Morris County and offers plenty of apple-picking. They also have a market with items for sale such as baked goods, pies and ice cream. There are plenty of picnic tables and you can bring your own snacks or enjoy food from the store.
